"Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand." Psalm 149:6 (NKJV)
Recognize Your Tools
Listen, praise isn’t just a feel-good moment in church or something we do when life is perfect. Praise is your weapon—a powerful, earth-shaking, chain-breaking weapon. The enemy doesn’t just tremble when you pray; but he flees when you praise. Because praise does what nothing else can: it invites the presence of God into your situation and turns the tables on the enemy.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, like you’ve been fighting battle after battle with no progress, I’ve got news for you: your breakthrough is in your praise. The Bible says in Psalm 22:3 that God inhabits the praises of His people. That means when you praise Him, His presence fills the room, the situation, and your life—and nothing stays the same when God steps in!
Praise Shifts Your Focus (Psalm 34:1–3)
"I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord... Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together."
Here’s the truth: what you focus on grows and becomes your reality. The enemy wants to keep your focus on your problems because he knows that as long as you’re fixated on what’s wrong, you’ll stay stuck. But praise flips the script. When you start magnifying God, everything else shrinks.
David knew this firsthand. He wrote these words while on the run from King Saul, hiding in a cave. Even then, David made a decision: “I will bless the Lord at all times.” Not sometimes. Not when life was easy. But - At. All. Times!!! Because David understood that when you praise God in the middle of your battle, you’re reminding yourself—and the enemy—that God is still in control.

Praise Confuses the Enemy (2 Chronicles 20:21–22)
"As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir... and they were defeated."
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat faced an impossible situation. Three enemy armies had gathered to attack Judah. What did Jehoshaphat do? He didn’t send warriors to the front lines—he sent worshippers. And as they began to praise God, the enemy armies turned on each other and destroyed themselves.
Praise confuses the enemy. The devil doesn’t know what to do when you lift your hands and worship in the middle of your storm. He expects you to complain, worry, or give up. But when you open your mouth and praise God instead, you’re declaring war in the spiritual realm.
Praise Breaks Chains (Acts 16:25–26)
"About midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God... Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose."
Paul and Silas were beaten, chained, and locked up in the darkest part of a Roman prison. They had every reason to complain. But instead, they started singing. And as they praised, the prison shook, the doors opened, and everyone’s chains fell off.
Here’s what you need to catch: their praise didn’t just set them free—it set everyone around them free. That’s the power of praise. When you lift your voice, God doesn’t just work in your life; He moves on behalf of those connected to you. Your praise might be the key to your family’s freedom.
